FASTeTEN in practice: Sheffield screen captures and ergonomicsThe FASTeTEN project has published a document setting out the user interfaces that will be used for the pilot deployment of the FAST bundle of services in Sheffield, United Kingdom. In Sheffield, FAST — which provides secure electronic document exchange — will be piloted in educational services. Specifically, FAST will implement a system allowing parents to give their consent to schools electronically. Parental permissions are needed in various circumstances, for example to approve their child’s participation in a school trip or other activity. Currently, this is done with a system of paper forms that parents must sign. FASTeTEN will digitalise the validation process. In doing so it will deal with some educational choices that pupils have to make for their studies. Using the FAST bundle of services, an electronic consent form will accessible to parents via a web portal. Parents will receive email notification that they need to complete the form. Instructions will also be provided. Using the FAST services, it will be possible to monitor if forms have been completed, and to send out reminders as appropriate. FAST will also provide a convenient management interface for the school authorities to manage the end-to-end process of consent request and processing. A workflow document showing how this will be done in practice has already been published on the FASTeTEN website. The ergonomics document (user interfaces) shows in practical, graphical terms how the system can be accessed, navigated, used, and modified for user preferences.
